A resolution was drawn up with Denmark as a main submitter on Turkey’s accession to the European Union and many amendments were proposed. Debate was sparked as the UK suggested that the EU was to help turkey in whatever way may it be socially, economically or politically.
The French delegate referred to the UK’s clause as “too general and generous”, stating that not every country was willing to help because each country and the EU as a whole has their own problems to deal with and can’t drop everything for Turkey.
The delegate of Hungary was eager to proceed to voting for the resolution as a whole however was called to order since the amendment was still being discussed. However, voting procedure on the amendment was in order after Luxemburg referred to the new clause as pointless and redundant.
The delegate’s reaction was obviously shared since the amendment failed to pass with an overwhelming majority of 26 to 1. The delegate of Hungary proposed they vote for the whole resolution again, but the chair reminded him of all the other amendments on the table.
