In the EU Council of Ministers, Turkey’s accession is keeping the delegates busier than ever. Turkey’s accession is apparently wanted by the most of delegates, but the problems Turkey faces are also being discussed extensively. In fact, the delegates spend their time on deciding what the worst problem in Turkey is– the corruption, the minority issue, its role in the Situation in Cyprus or its compliance of the standards to which the EU must keep.
The Chair, meanwhile, seemed confused. When proceedings came to a standstill and the council was split in half, the chair gave a decision that was unexpected by the delegates. When delegates voted on whether they would extend the moderated caucus, it was a tie. The chair then decided to extend moderated caucus by five minutes and then move into unmoderated caucus.
EU Council will continue to discuss Turkey in the following days due to their agenda which is on Turkey's accession and Cyprus problem.
